It is transmitted when bacteria, viruses or fungi are breathed into the alveoli (tiny bags of air at the end of the lungs). These become irritated and swollen and fill with liquid, making breathing difficult and painful.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">More than 600,000 cases of pneumonia are detected among the world population every year. It tends to affect people over the age of 60, children under two and people with health problems.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">To raise awareness and reduce the number of cases during the winter months, specialists recommended getting a vaccination and taking some routine precautions. The good news is that there are some <\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>simple ways<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"> to prevent it!<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Symptoms of pneumonia<\/h3>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Although only a doctor can diagnose a disease properly, there are some signs that may lead you to suspect it: <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Cough<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">High temperature<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Dyspnoea or breathing difficulties<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Chest pain<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Phlegm<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Increased heart rate<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Weakness<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The features of <\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>typical pneumonia<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"> are sudden onset accompanied by shivering, high temperature, cough, phlegm and chest pain exacerbated by breathing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>Atypical pneumonia<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"> does not have a phlegmy cough and has a set of non-specific symptoms such as joint and muscle pain, headache and digestive problems, meaning it is sometimes mistaken for flu.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"western\">Specific treatment<\/h3>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The treatment depends on the cause and type of pneumonia, the severity of the symptoms and the patient&#8217;s health. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">An oral or intravenous <\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>antibiotic<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"> is usually prescribed. Best rest is advisable and patients are given analgesics for the pain and antipyretics for the high temperature. Drink plenty of water to help to expel the phlegm. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The most important thing you can do is follow the doctor\u2019s instructions carefully to stop the illness from getting worse, dragging on or relapsing. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Pneumonia is preventable<\/h3>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">It is always better to prevent than to treat pneumonia.
