Apply certain attitudes to better connect with others is up to you.<\/p>\n<p>On World Day for Safety and Health at Work (28 April) we list the skills you need to live and grow in a healthy, friendly and positive workplace.<\/p>\n<h2>How to build good relationships with others<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li><strong> Practise empathy<\/strong>. Listen to what the other person is telling you in a mindful way. Don\u2019t jump to conclusions or make judgements. And take an interest in what the other person is saying.<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li><strong> Communicate assertively<\/strong>. The goal is to learn to express what you feel and need in an effective, non-demanding way. Nobody knows what you want if you don&#8217;t express it.<\/li>\n<li><strong style=\"color: initial\">Honour your commitments<\/strong><span style=\"color: initial\">. Before you make demands, make sure you are meeting your obligations. Proving that you can be trusted will make building healthy relationships easier.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li><strong> Learn to ask for help. <\/strong>Asking for help or delegating tasks makes for an authentic connection with the other person: it shows that you trust them and value their input.<\/li>\n<li><strong style=\"color: initial\">Set clear boundaries. <\/strong><span style=\"color: initial\">Boundaries are a necessary part of building healthy relationships. If a situation makes you uncomfortable, express yourself clearly.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol start=\"6\">\n<li><strong> Avoid gossip. <\/strong>Gossip erodes trust. Don\u2019t talk about people behind their backs. If you have a problem, talk to them about it directly.<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol start=\"7\">\n<li><strong> Show gratitude. <\/strong>Acknowledge and showcase others&#8217; good work: thank someone who has given you a hand, congratulate someone for doing a good job, bring a snack for breaktime or send a thank you note.
